Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much do you charge to come out and estimate my damage?

A: RestoreMasters, Inc will give free in-home estimates within our service area. For estimates outside our service area, a minimal fee may apply.

Q: What is RestoreMasters’ service area?

A: We provide work and bids all along the Wasatch Front from north of Ogden to south of Provo; and from Park City area to Grantsville and Tooele.

Q: How do I know if I have a mold problem?

A: Active mold is generally wet or fuzzy. It can be green, black, orange, or purple in color. Inactive mold is white and dry and can appear powdery. Another way to detect mold is by smell: mold has a distinctive musty odor. If you have concerns regarding mold, an independent mold test can give the mold counts in an area to determine if levels are safe or not.

Q: What areas might be more at risk for mold?

A: Mold can grow anywhere: indoors and outdoors. The most common area mold growth occurs is in an area with faucets or water spouts such as a kitchen, bathroom, or laundry area. Mold is also very common in basements.

Q: In emergency situations such as when water extraction or board-up services are needed, what is RestoreMasters’ response time?

A: In most cases within our coverage area, RestoreMasters’ response time is within 60-90 minutes or less.

Q: Do I need to pay any money up front?

A: RestoreMasters will not require any money up front. Some companies may require an insurance deductible upon signing a contract, but we will not request any money until the job is complete on jobs totaling less than $500. On larger jobs, RestoreMasters may charge draws on the project after work is well under way.

Q: Does RestoreMasters offer any sort of warranty on work?

A: RestoreMasters gives a 1-year warranty on all workmanship and materials used to restore your property.

Q: In emergency water damage situations, what kinds of things can I do while waiting for your crew to arrive?

A: If you are able, begin moving furniture or place plastic or foil under furniture legs to prevent carpet staining. At your discretion, you may want to turn off power at the breaker for the affected area. Don’t use electrical equipment around the affected area such as shop vacs or wet/dry vacs as they can start a fire or cause bodily shock. If applicable, move small items away from water area, especially items stored inside large furniture such as china from a hutch or DVD’s from an entertainment center.

Q: How long will the water removal take?

A: Time will vary depending on the size of the area affected and by the amount of furniture in the area. An estimated guess would be between 2-4 hours on an average job.

Q: What precautions are taken to ensure that my flood problem doesn’t turn into a mold and mildew problem?

A: RestoreMasters uses state-of-the-art equipment to dry out areas within 24-48 hours before mold will set in. In carpeted areas, it is necessary in most cases to remove the pad under carpet to expedite the drying process. RestoreMasters will also apply an anti-microbial solution to prevent mold or mildew from growing.

Q: What is involved in the insurance process?

A: Once you’ve called your insurance company, they will make a claim. An insurance adjuster may come out to take a look at your damage. He will put together an estimate and pay the estimate less your insurance deductible and depreciation. Some claims are not covered by insurance. Refer to your policy for additional information regarding exclusions.

Q: What can I do to prevent water damage?

- Periodically check for leaks under your sinks or where a hose connects to a water supply.
- If your refrigerator has an ice-maker, make sure the connection hose is securely attached to the water supply.
- Remove and replace deteriorated caulk and grout in bathrooms.
- In the laundry area, check washer hoses regularly for cracks or leaks around hose ends.
- Check your water heater for rusted areas or wet spots on the floor.
- An average water heater will last about 15 years; sump pumps have a 10-year life span.
- Outside your home, keep roof free of debris, ice dams, and so forth.
- Keep gutters clean to avoid drainage problems.
- Once a year, have the A/C system serviced by a qualified contractor.
- Before winter, disconnect hoses and turn off each spigot’s water supply.
- Replace damaged caulk around doors and windows.
